The Davies-era Master
John Simm
If David Tennant was many young fans' first Doctor, John Simm was their first Master. He took on the role after Derek Jacobi's version regenerated, wreaking havoc on Earth and generally tormenting the Doctor's friends and loved ones. Nearly all of his appearances were with David Tennant, though he did return in Series 10 to go up against Peter Capaldi's version of the Doctor.
Simm's version of the character, known colloquially as the "Saxon Master" was incredibly significant to the RTD1 era, despite only appearing in a handful of episodes. Those include:
- Series 3, Episodes 11-13: Utopia, The Sound of Drums, and Last of the Time Lords
- The End of Time: Parts One and Two (2009, 2010)
- Series 10, Episodes 11-12: World Enough and Time and The Doctor Falls
