Following on from previous successful releases, a brand new Blu-ray steelbook edition of Doctor Who: Series 7 will be released in December!

Once again, Doctor Who fans and collectors of Blu-ray steelbooks have a brand new release to look forward to. Collecting Matt Smith’s third and last series as the Eleventh Doctor, the Series 7 steelbook is ready to pre-order right now!

Running from 2012 to 2013, Series 7 is literally a series of two halves. Well, kind of. The first five episodes focused on the final adventures of Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), and gave us stories of Dalek zombies, gunslinging cyborgs, and even dinosaurs on a spaceship! (Still can’t believe that was the actual title for the last one.)

Those episodes also gave us an emotional goodbye for Amy and Rory in The Angels Take Manhattan. Rather fittingly, this was when the show took a break, with the rest of the series saved for the new year – when the Doctor would gain a new companion…

Series 7: Part 2

The second part of Series 7 introduced us to Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). Well, again, kind of. One thing that was set up nicely in both the first part’s opening episode and the 2012 Christmas special was the mystery of multiple Claras, only introducing the real Clara properly once the series’s second part kicked off.  Naturally, this became the key hook for the remainder of the series.

At eight episodes, the second part of Series 7 was considerably longer than the first. In fact, it was long enough to be a full series in its own right, at least by UK standards. (Seriously, look at the number of episodes that Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes got per series.)

Across those episodes, Series 7 brought back several major enemies, including the Cybermen, the Ice Warriors, and the Great Intelligence. It also set things up for the fiftieth anniversary in a big way with the reveal of a previously unknown Doctor! (Yeah, remember when revealing just one previously unknown Doctor was shocking enough!)

New artwork

The Series 7 steelbook Blu-ray not only collects all 13 episodes from the series. It also includes the Christmas specials The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe and The Snowmen, too.

Of course, what’s really exciting is the new artwork used for the set. For all the previous steelbook Blu-ray releases so far, each has featured some extremely impressive artwork that captures the spirit of that series so well.

The same is definitely true for Series 7. Created by illustrator Sophie Cowdrey, the artwork for this release heavily focuses on two key episodes: The Angels Take Manhattan on the front and The Name of the Doctor on the back. Both sides also feature key companions and enemies from across the whole series. Be sure to check it out for yourself on the official Doctor Who website.

Doctor Who: Series 7 is available to pre-order in the UK on steelbook Blu-ray now from Amazon, HMV, Zavvi, and Zoom. It will be released on Dec 14th.

Next. Remembrance of the Daleks is a rich and action-packed story. dark
