Doctor Who news: Prequel spin-off I, Davros: The Complete Series released on download

The entire series of I, Davros – the Doctor Who spin-off looking at the life of the Daleks’ creator – has now been re-released in a single download, exclusive to Big Finish.

This week saw the long-overdue return of Terry Molloy as Davros, in Big Finish’s latest Doctor Who box set The Eighth Doctor: Time War 4. Unsurprisingly, Molloy is fantastic in the role, as proven in the opening story Palindrome, where he plays two distinct versions of the character. It just might be one of his very best performances as Davros. But if there’s one performance that matches it at least, it’s in the prequel series I, Davros.

Set on Skaro before the events of Genesis of the Daleks, I, Davros is a four-part drama set across Davros’s life. It reveals the events that helped to shape him into one of Skaro’s most powerful men, as well as what lead him to create one of the evilest races in the universe. It’s an extremely strong series that explores one of Doctor Who‘s most iconic villains in a fresh way.

This week, new fans can enjoy the complete spin-off in one easy listen. Big Finish has re-released the entire series in one downloadable box set: I, Davros: The Complete Series. Along with containing each of the original four episodes – specifically Innocence, Purity, Corruption, and Guilt – it also includes the special episode The Davros Mission. It’s not directly connected to I, Davros, but it is an interesting special that was originally exclusive to 2007 DVD box set The Complete Davros Collection.

Davros at Big Finish

Right now, I, Davros: The Complete Series is available on download for just £9.99 until Sep 23. It’s definitely worth checking out. But on top of that, all Big Finish Davros stories (with the obvious exception of Time War 4) are currently 50% off on download from Big Finish.

There are several great stories that are definitely worth checking out from this sale. The first that springs to mind is Sixth Doctor audio Davros by Lance Parkin. This provided a great exploration of the villain in a refreshing way – particularly as it didn’t feature any Daleks.

Another highlight – and one certainly worth listening to before Time War 4 – is Eighth Doctor story Terror Firma by Joseph Lidster. This one explores the Doctor’s and Davros’s relationship on a deep level, and shows just how far Davros will push his oldest enemy to the edge.
