Michelle Gomez returns as Missy in the second series of her Doctor Who spin-off series from Big Finish Productions – out today!

Last year, we finally got to find out what kind of adventures Missy got up to when the Doctor wasn’t around to stop her in Missy: Series 1. Starring Michelle Gomez as the Doctor’s best enemy, the Doctor Who spin-off was a lot of fun, featuring a great deal of humor but never shying away from the darkness of the character.

Today, Missy’s adventures continue with the release of her second series. And she’s facing a lot of enemies, both old and new. In Lisa McMullin’s opening episode, she encounters mysterious do-gooder the Lumiat – someone who knows far more about Missy than they ought to.

Then in Brimstone and Terror by Roy Gill, she’s reunited with Oliver and Lucy – two children she was once a nanny to back in series 1. They know how dangerous Missy can be, so it’s not surprising that they ask for help – which in this case comes in the form of the Sontaran Strax from the Paternoster Gang.

In the third episode, Missy gets to have some fun during the time of the Gunpowder Plot while encountering a rookie time agent in Gemma Arrowsmith’s Treason and Plot. But that’s not the only time traveler she meets in this series…

Missy and the Monk

Perhaps the most exciting episode of Missy: Series 2 is Too Many Masters by John Dorney. Along with featuring the popular Doctor Who monsters the Ogrons, this episode also features Rufus Hound as the Monk.

The reason that this episode is particularly exciting isn’t that it’s the first time that these two have met. In fact, it’s more because we already know how brilliant Gomez and Hound truly are together as Missy and the Monk. Their previous meeting in last year’s Divorced, Beheaded, Regenerated was an absolute joy to listen to, and that’s more than likely to be true in this case, too.

More from Winter is Coming

Unsurprisingly, Michelle Gomez is happy about how successful Missy’s own audio series has proved to be.

"Across the board, everybody has loved the opportunity these audio adventures have given them to keep Missy alive, so that’s been really heartening. It’s been so sweet and lovely. So I’ve been filled up with that. The listeners have just really enjoyed her adventures, and they’re on the ride, and well done to Big Finish for providing it."

Missy: Series 2 is available to purchase now on CD and download directly from Big Finish’s website. On top of that, her first series is currently on sale at 33% discount, along with many other of the Master’s adventures both in and out of Doctor Who in a current sale from Big Finish. This sale will end on Jul 15 at 23:59 UK time.
