The latest Doctor Who watchalong is Matt Smith episode The Rings of Akhaten – scheduled at 8PM UK time today!

I hope you all enjoyed An Adventure in Space and Time on Saturday. Not only is it a beautiful tribute to the people who helped to create our favorite science-fiction series, but it still holds up as a fantastic piece of drama in its own right. But of course, following that watchalong, it’s back to Doctor Who itself – this time, with Matt Smith episode The Rings of Akhaten!

It’s easy to see why this has been picked. While the story itself is completely standalone, it’s a major episode for Clara. At this point, she’s a new companion for the Doctor. At the very start of this episode, we get to learn her personal history: how her mother and father met; what her childhood was like, and even a personal tragedy.

On top of this, we see her take her first major trip on the TARDIS. A new companion’s first visit to another world is always great to see. But perhaps more fascinating is seeing the Doctor’s and Clara’s relationship during its early stages. Both of them are still getting used to each other, and the trust that they eventually share has yet to develop. For that much, The Rings of Akhaten is a fascinating episode to rewatch.

After the episode, the Lockdown Long Song will be released, which will feature the voices of over 300 Doctor Who fans from around the world! So that will certainly be an impressive lockdown vid to watch!
