Today, many will be taking part in a huge watch-along of popular Doctor Who episode Vincent and the Doctor – including Matt Smith and Karen Gillan!

The next major watch-along that self-isolating Doctor Who fans can take part in is the much-loved Eleventh Doctor episode Vincent and the Doctor. Set today for 7 PM BST, fans can join in the discussion on Twitter, using the hashtag #TheUltimateGinger.

The previous two watch-alongs have been considerably successful. In fact, both former showrunners Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies even took part in the discussion for The Day of the Doctor and Rose, respectively. Several actors who worked on the episodes also joined in, including Dan Starkey and Ingrid Oliver.

More than that: we’ve even been given brand new content. Steven Moffat gave us a great little sketch designed to be watched before Day, featuring Dan Starkey as Strax, as a nod to a similar sketch made when the special was released in cinemas. For Rose, Russell T Davies gave us both a prequel and a sequel to the story.

Richard Curtis, writer for the episode, will be one of many taking part in the watch-along.

Who’s joining in?

As a result of the previous two watch-alongs’ success, expectations are rather high for today’s one. So who will be joining in for the discussion for this particular episode?

As it turns out, quite a few! Along with Richard Curtis and Emma Freud – the story’s scriptwriter and script editor, respectively – it’s also been confirmed that Bill Nighy, Tony Curran (Vincent van Gogh), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and even Matt Smith – the Eleventh Doctor himself – will be live-tweeting the episode!

This is pretty amazing to see, and guarantees another exciting mass rewatch that many fans will enjoy and take part in. It’s wonderful that – in a time when people are having to stay away from each other as much as possible – the fandom comes together so strongly over their favorite show. Once again, we need to give a massive thanks to Emily Cook from Doctor Who Magazine for arranging this, just as she did for the other two.

Vincent and the Doctor is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK. It’s also available to purchase on iTunes, Amazon or Google Play, and it can be streamed on Crave in Canada.
