We may have a new Master in Doctor Who, but we can still enjoy Michelle Gomez’s iconic incarnation in Missy: Series 2 later this year!

Last year, Big Finish released the first series of Missy – a Doctor Who spin-off series based entirely around Michelle Gomez’s iconic take on the Master (or “Missy”, as she preferred to call herself). Lighter than their other Master spin-off series The War Master, but still featuring the Doctor’s archenemy being gloriously evil, Missy: Series 1 was a lot of fun to listen to. So it was only natural that Big Finish would want a second series. And today, they’ve finally announced it.

Scheduled to be released in July, Missy: Series 2 continues directly from where the previous box set left off. Missy’s about to have a lot of fun but, like her oldest friend/enemy, she’s about to head into a lot of trouble, too!

"Missy… alone, unleashed and unfettered. What does she get up to when the Doctor isn’t around? Now she has what she wants, Missy needs someone to show off to. But her temporal mischief attracts the wrong kind of attention.Infuriating children, a vacationing Sontaran and her own worst intentions will get in her way. And a Meddling Monk, out for revenge…"

Meddling meetings

Naturally, there’s a lot that we can look forward to in Missy’s second box set, as producer David Richardson reveals.

"So here we are – out in space and time again as Missy creates her own special brand of mayhem, meeting Strax and two acquaintances from the past and paired once again with the Meddling Monk."

More from Winter is Coming

Missy meeting Strax is exciting enough. But perhaps even more exciting is the return of the Meddling Monk. While we’ve heard them meet before in the previous volume, the pairing of Michelle Gomez’s Missy and Rufus Hound’s incarnation of the Monk was absolutely fantastic to listen to. And it sounds like Hound had as much fun working with Gomez as we had listening to them together.

"I mean, I doubt I’m the only person alive who would happily work in the wake of Michelle Gomez’s wild-eyed genius ‘til the end of time, so just know that I will never not want to be in stories with her. I always enjoy Doctor Who stories that have a certain swagger about them, so getting to reform the Missy ‘n’ Monk double act is one of my absolute favourite things to do."

And of course, Michelle Gomez herself is more than happy that she gets to play Missy once more.

"It’s a phenomenal privilege. I’m so thrilled and happy that I still get to keep Missy alive with these wonderful stories. She is naughty and not at all nice, but I quite like her."

Missy: Series 2 is available to pre-order on CD or download directly from Big Finish’s website.
