The War Master embarks on his most ambitious scheme yet in the latest volume of his own Doctor Who spin-off series – out now!

It’s funny to think that, up until a few years ago, we had never had a multi-Master story in Doctor Who. But ever since 2016 – when Big Finish released The Two Masters – we’ve been seeing more and more of them.

In 2017, we had John Simm’s Master meet Michelle Gomez’s Missy in World Enough and Time. Just two months ago, we had four Masters join together in Eighth Doctor story Day of the Master. And just a couple of days ago, we found out that no less than eight Masters will be meeting in the fiftieth anniversary story Masterful in 2021 – including John Simm in his Big Finish debut!

It’s going to be an extremely long wait for that epic story. Fortunately, we do have one more multi-Master story to enjoy – one that’s just been released today! But Anti-Genesis may be a multi-Master story like no other.

In the latest box set of The War Master – starring Derek Jacobi as the incarnation first seen in Tenth Doctor story Utopia – the Master embarks on his most ambitious scheme yet. One that neither the Time Lords nor even the Daleks would dare attempt. Only one Time Lord can stop him: another Master…

More from Winter is Coming

Master vs Master!

Back in September, Big Finish revealed the exciting news that Mark Gatiss would be resuming his role as the Unbound Master. An incarnation from another universe, Gatiss’s incarnation is delightfully old-school, one that captures the charm and the classical style of Roger Delgado’s Master very well.

This makes him a worthy opponent to Jacobi’s War Master, who just might be the best successor yet to Delgado’s original. Wonderfully charming yet completely sinister and terrifying, Jacobi has proved himself to be perhaps one of, if not the greatest Master of the twenty-first century at least, thanks to The War Master audios. So the idea of Jacobi’s and Gatiss’s Masters facing each other is an extremely exciting idea.

On top of that, we not only have Narvin from Gallifrey featuring in this one, who just might be one of the greatest characters ever created in a Doctor Who spin-off. But, with a title like Anti-Genesis, we also have a story that clearly goes back to the very origins of the Daleks. Just how far will the Master go this time? And what happens when he has to face an enemy as ruthless and insane as he is? We can’t wait to find out!

The War Master: Anti-Genesis is available now on download and CD from Big Finish’s website. Expect a review from us on the series later this week.
