Doctor Who: Classic Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith audio Max Warp to be released on vinyl!

The Doctor Who audio story Max Warp – a hilarious mix of Top Gear parody and whodunit mystery – is soon to be released on vinyl, exclusive to ASDA!

Following the likes of many Tom Baker and David Tennant stories, the next Doctor Who audio story to be released on vinyl is Max Warp, starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and Sheridan Smith as his companion, Lucie Miller.

To be sold exclusively from ASDA, the upcoming vinyl will be released on Nov. 15 as a limited edition of just 2,000 copies. The new release will also feature brand new artwork and production notes, as well.

Here’s a description for the story.

"When a test flight of the new Kith Sunstorm ends in disaster, the Sirius Exhibition Station is plunged into a web of murder and intrigue. Someone – or something – is trying to re-ignite a war between the Varlon Empire and the Kith Oligarchy. As the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance, only two investigators, the Doctor and Lucie, can hope to uncover the truth. So strap yourself in, engage thrust, and prepare for… Max Warp!"

Along with featuring series regular Sheridan Smith, Max Warp also stars Duncan James from boy band Blue as Timbo ‘the Ferret’.

Max Warp

Originally released on CD and download back in 2008 as part of the second season of The Eighth Doctor Adventures, Max Warp is a rather fun story by Jonathan Morris. A huge parody of Top Gear (if you’re remotely familiar with the show, no prizes for guessing who Graeme Garden’s loud and chauvinistic character of Geoffrey Vantage is making fun of), the story also features a particularly fun whodunit mystery with a lot of twists.

Along with featuring British comedy legends Graeme Garden and James Fleet, this story also has the surprising casting of Duncan James, who British listeners will perhaps be most familiar with as being a member of the boy band Blue.

Extremely light and standalone, it makes for a great introduction to The Eighth Doctor Adventures, particularly for New Series fans more familiar with later Doctors. So it’s not surprising to see this getting the vinyl treatment. (For more on our thoughts for this particular story, check out our review.)
