Doctor Who: New Character Options action figures inspired by Big Finish released!

Character Options has released three brand new sets of Doctor Who action figures, as inspired by Big Finish’s many audio adventures!

Back in June, it was revealed that several sets of action figures by Character Options would be released, as heavily inspired by Big Finish’s many Doctor Who audios. Not only have more details about these sets been revealed, but, after an extremely quick sale on Big Finish’s website, they’ll soon be available in B&M stores in the UK later this month!

Each set features one of the Doctors and one of the Daleks, with the latter at least heavily inspired by some of Big Finish’s own Dalek characters.

As revealed back in June, the Eighth Doctor in his Dark Eyes costume has been paired with the Dalek Interrogator Prime from Time War episode In the Garden of Death. The Seventh Doctor has been released with an Axis Strike Squad Dalek from Gallifrey VI, while the War Doctor’s been paired with a Dalek Scientist from A Thing of Guile in The War Doctor series.

An exciting collaboration

Unsurprisingly, both Big Finish and Character Options are excited about this. Executive producer of Big Finish Nicholas Briggs is very happy that these figures have been released.

"There’s something magical about the Character Options Doctor Who figures, and not just because I bought boxes and boxes of them for my son! I’ve always felt that they were made with great love and with the fans in mind – much like Big Finish stories."

Jason Haigh-Ellery, also executive producer of Big Finish, is equally excited about this.

"Thanks to Character Options we finally have action figures representing characterisations of the Doctor as heard in Big Finish’s audio drama.  I was very excited to see these first sets take shape, and I look forward to seeing many more in the future!"

And Character Options’s Creative Director Al Dewar is sure that the fans will enjoy these brand new releases.

"We are incredibly proud of this summer 2019 line up and believe that the fans will be equally delighted with each product that is to be launched. Our loyal following of collectors are always keen to gain a first glimpse of what’s new and doing this in such a personal style was important to us. The next stage is to see the range in stores!"

Even the War Doctor gets his own themed set, as inspired by his Time War adventures on audio!

Mix and match

More from Winter is Coming

It has to be said that it is definitely extremely cool to see Doctor Who action figures based on Big Finish’s many audios. It’s one more thing that helps to add a key visual component to some of their audio adventures, while still leaving plenty for the mind to imagine.

One thing that’s a little strange is how there’s a bit of a mix-and-match feel to these sets. While the War Doctor is paired nicely with a Dalek from an appropriate story, the Eighth Doctor’s Dark Eyes costume was chronologically used considerably earlier than the Time War, while the Seventh Doctor doesn’t show up in Gallifrey VI at all! Hardly a major complaint, just an interesting observation.

All of these sets were available as a bundle from Big Finish’s website, but after just one day, they’re already completely sold out! However, they will be available in B&M Stores across the UK from late August.
