Gallifrey’s darkest days continue and Rassilon is resurrected as President of the Time Lords, as the second volume of Doctor Who spin-off Gallifrey: Time War is released today!

Gallifrey fans have been waiting over a year for this, but it’s finally here. The second volume of Gallifrey: Time War, the series that focuses on one of the biggest pieces of Doctor Who mythology from the Time Lords’ perspective, is out today.

This set has a lot to live up to, and I mean a lot. Not only has Gallifrey been an excellent series in general, as we’ve recently reviewed the spin-off from the very beginning.

But the first volume of Time War was nothing short of amazing. It established some major mythology, not just for Gallifrey, but for Doctor Who in general (which we’ll be looking at in more detail soon); it gave us a huge number of twists and turns in just four episodes, but more than that, all four episodes were incredibly strong. Will the same be true of volume two?

Rassilon’s resurrection

More from Winter is Coming

Volume one ended on a huge cliffhanger: the resurrection of Rassilon, the founder of Time Lord society. This was a major moment for the series. We knew from both The End of Time and Hell Bent that Rassilon had been President of Gallifrey during the Time War. But what we didn’t know was how. That question was answered in Desperate Measures.

Now, we know how ruthless Rassilon became. We know that he was not only ready to kill Time Lords on a whim if they disagreed with him by the end of the War. We also know that he was ready to bring about the destruction of history itself. So we know where he’s eventually heading. But what terrible things did he commit for the glory of Gallifrey before then? And how will Romana and Narvin react to his resurrection and his politics? We can’t wait to find out.

Gallifrey: Time War: Volume Two is available now on CD and download directly from Big Finish Productions. You can expect a review from us on the series shortly.
