Following the huge success of the first two volumes, a brand new Doctor Who audio box set has just been announced featuring David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprising their roles of the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble!

Tenth Doctor fans, rejoice! If you want more David Tennant as the Doctor, you’re in luck, as Big Finish have announced today the third volume of their Doctor Who audio series, The Tenth Doctor Adventures!

The first two volumes were both massively popular, with the limited edition of the first volume selling out very quickly. Volume one, released back in May 2016, was set during Series Four with Donna Noble as the traveling companion. Volume two was released in November 2017 and featured Rose Tyler.

With next year’s volume three, not only will the series feature Donna again, but it’ll also see the return of a couple of other familiar faces. Along with Jacqueline King, who plays Donna’s mother Sylvia Noble and is something of a Big Finish regular, we’ll also be hearing from someone we haven’t heard from at all in almost a decade: Wilfred Mott, played by Bernard Cribbins!

This is fantastic news. Not only is the character of Wilf popular with the fans, but this will be the first time that Bernard Cribbins has performed at Big Finish since Horror of Glam Rock in 2007. Almost a year before he was seen on screen as Donna’s granddad, (although we didn’t know that initially,) he played the very colorful and self-centred band manager Arnold Korns.

Jacqueline King sounds just as excited as the rest of us about the fact that the Noble family will be reunited in full.

"I recently returned to the role with Big Finish and it was like putting a cherished old sweater back on. That old sweater will have to be washed and conditioned ready for this episode with the A team back in full. Can’t believe my luck. I’m guessing it might actually feel a bit emotional."

Story details

Here’s what we can expect from the three stories included in this very special box set.

"3.1 No Place by James GossIt’s Haunted Makeovers! The home improvement show with a spooky twist. The Noble family are hoping to cast out a few spirits along with the old bathroom suite, as presenter Justin joins Donna, Wilf, Sylvia and the Doctor for the latest edition of his reality TV series.Of course, Justin knows that any supernatural phenomena can be faked. Ghosts can’t possibly be real. Can they..?3.2 One Mile Down by Jenny T ColganDonna and the Doctor take a holiday – in the beautiful underwater city of Vallarasee.Things have changed since the Doctor last swam through it: Vallarasee is now enclosed inside an airdome. Judoon patrol historic sites, and instead of tourists wearing helmets to breathe, the native Fins are forced to adapt. But leaks have begun to trickle into the dome, and the Doctor and Donna must convince the Judoon that disaster is imminent. Or else thousands will be trapped, as the waters rise…3.3 The Creeping Death by Roy GillLondon, 1952, and a deadly smog envelops the capital. But something even more dangerous – and alien – is hiding within the mists. When the Doctor and Donna get lost in the fog, they find a motley group of Londoners trying to make their way home.Soon the stakes are raised, as death creeps along fume-choked streets, and not everyone will make it out alive…."

So, we’ve got ghosts, Judoon and the Great Smog of London. Sounds like we’ve got a lot to enjoy with this box set.

More from Winter is Coming

Even better is that, once again, this volume sounds like quite the collector’s item. Costume designs for some of the monsters featured in the box set have been designed by Doctor Who and Blake’s 7 costume designer June Hudson. Storyboards have also been created by writer and SFX specialist Mike Tucker. So it sounds like the physical box set will have an additional strong visual element to add to people’s imagination when listening to the stories.

The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Volume Three is currently available on pre-order for £35.00 on CD or £25.00 on download. Or, if you wanted to get the three stories individually, they’re also available for £10.99 on CD or £8.99 on download. All releases will be out in May 2019.
