Doctor Who: Series Eleven writers announced
With just months until the long-awaited broadcast of Series Eleven, we find out who’s writing for Chibnall’s new vision of Doctor Who.
At long last, the writing team for Series Eleven has been officially announced. Speculation had been rife that there would be a host of new names writing for Doctor Who. This has proven to be the case, more so than some may have expected, with a writing team on board that hasn’t got a single Doctor Who TV writing credit between them.
Show-runner Chris Chibnall had a few words to say about the new slate of writers to the BBC:
"We have a team of writers who’ve been working quietly and secretly for a long time now, crafting characters, worlds and stories to excite and move you. Hailing from a range of backgrounds, tastes and styles, here’s what unites them: they are awesome people as well as brilliant at their job. They love Doctor Who. And they’ve all worked above and beyond the call of duty in an effort to bring audiences something special, later this year."
New writing team
Here at Doctor Who Watch we have discussed how Series Eleven will be the start of a new era, excitedly theorizing about how behind the scenes developments will alter the show. Now we can add another development to the list of major changes: a completely new writing team.

The new writing team working alongside Chris Chibnall are:
- Former children and young adult author Malorie Blackman, who has written over sixty books and was Children’s Laureate from 2013 to 2015.
- Writer and playwright Ed Hime who is best known for his work on Skins.
- Screenwriter and playwright Vinay Patel who’s television debut Murdered By My Father won a Royal Television Society award and was nominated for multiple BAFTA’s.
- Writer Guild Award nominee and originating writer for Wentworth, Pete McTighe.
- Screenwriter Joy Wilkinson who is most notable for critically acclaimed BBC drama The Life and Adventures of Nick Nickleby and her award winning theatre work.
Assuming each new writer is only penning a single story, this would mean Chris Chibnall will be writing exactly half of Series Eleven. The number of episodes each writer has been tasked with hasn’t been confirmed at the time of writing.
