Matt Smith to play Charlie Manson in Charlie Says

Sometimes people stay within the roles they are given, and they like the comfort. However, given Matt Smith’s newest job, it looks like he’s getting as far away from his royal and time traveling roots.
According to Radio Times, Charlie Says, a look at the famous cult killer, will begin work in LA this Spring. There isn’t too much to know as of yet, other than the people who have been cast and the basic groundwork of the show. Here’s what we know so far:
Matt Smith, who is best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor and The Crown‘s Prince Philip, has opted to go far out of his comfort zone for this character. Smith will be playing the infamous cult killer Charles Manson who died last year. The show will focus on the cult that Manson formed in the 1960s which came to be known as the Manson Family. It will also specifically focus on the women he got involved.
The Women
The first woman who will join Matt Smith is Suki Waterhouse. She appeared in the Insurgent movie, as well as Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies, which Matt Smith also appeared in. Waterhouse will be playing Mary Brunner, an early member of the cult. Game of Thrones actress Hannah Murray, who will be known to GoT watchers Gilly will join the movie, as well as Odessa Young, an Australian actress, and American Actress Marianne Rendon will be in the movie as the three women who go to jail.
Carla Gugino, American Spy Kids actress, Kaylie Carter, and Nurse Jackie star Merritt Wever will also star in the movie.
The main plot will center on three women, Susan Atkins, Leslie Van Houten, and Patricia Krenwinkel — three women who were sentenced to death after the 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders. Manson ordered the murders of Sharon Tate and the wife a director name Roman Polanski. With California no longer having the death penalty, the movie will watch the three women as they come to face what they’ve done.
What to think
While there’s not much information on how everything will be portrayed, we can know one thing – this will expand Matt Smith farther than we’ve ever seen him before. This will definitely be a project worth watching.
