Doctor Who Season 10 Superlatives: Cutest Couple…it’s a TIE!

In our next Doctor Who Superlative, we have to give it up for our ‘Cutest Couple’…I’m a softie and I had to TIE this one, there were just so many!

Yes, I couldn’t pick one cutest couple, I decided to do two for season ten of Doctor Who. There were many opportunities for love, depending on what your preference was. Pretty much every preference was available for you, and we don’t blame you for shipping all of them! (We did!)

But the two that really stood out to us was Bill & Heather, and The Doctor and Missy. While The Doctor and Missy might not be such a surprise, perhaps Bill and Heather are. Had she not returned in the end of the series, I never would have thought of them. But I should have known that her story wasn’t over in The Pilot and that she would be back.

Bill and Heather – The Pilot & The Doctor Falls

How can you not ship Bill and Heather? Not only do they have amazing chemistry from the beginning, it’s the first time we see Bill truly happy.  They made sure to tell us that Bill liked girls, but we only saw it with Heather. The picture of Bill against the fence is still one of my favorite pictures of her.

It was so, incredibly sad to see Heather leave in the end of The Pilot, and Moffat gave us every

indication she was dead — the Doctor go so far as to even say she was! Of course, Moffat lies, and the Doctor lies. So Heather was brought back in the finale to save Bill from a lifetime of being a Cybermen.

It turns out that somehow, in the Pilot, she gave Bill her tears, which kept them connected (I think, I’m still a little hazy on the details). She got Bill’s soul out of the Cyberman and took her as part of whatever life Heather is now.

Now they’re free to roam the universe together, in whatever water-form they please…until Bill comes back for Twice Upon a Time!

Twissy

Of course, Twissy was going to win this Superlative…and just about every relationship/friendship one that’s out there! We all know that the Doctor and the Master have been friends for years, and in my opinion, it culminated the most in Missy’s form as the Master. Is it because they felt that the Master and the Doctor falling in love was too progressive? If so, I understand, only because of how long the Master has been around. (But John Simm and David Tennant gave it a good try in 07.)

But with a female Master, we knew that just about anything was possible. Missy was perhaps the most unpredictable regeneration we had, and even though she was the exact opposite of Twelve, it didn’t stop them. Everything from their past stayed true. They were still friends for centuries, and they were still friends as children who wanted to see the world.

Even though Missy turning good was an aspect we knew wouldn’t take, no matter how well Michelle Gomez played it, it wasn’t going to work. Even Michelle Gomez said Missy was going to be evil. She did side with The Master when he came back, only to try to kill him to get back to the Doctor. It led to a heart breaking death, and now we have no idea where that will leave the Doctor and the Master.

But for a couple of seasons, we had their version of texting, flirting, and possibly even, falling in love.
