Doctor Who: PETA urges the Doctor to become a vegan

PETA has put out a message for the Doctor to become a vegan. But…why?

Recently, PETA sent a message to Chris Chibnall that they would like the Doctor to become a vegan. And to be honest, this is more confusing than any plot twist or story arc that a showrunner could come up with for me.

First, the Doctor is already a vegetarian. If you don’t remember, think about all the times the Doctor “chastised” Bill for eating a bacon sandwich, reminding her that it had a mother and a father. In fact, I wasn’t really sure that aliens ate all that much. We never really see the Doctor eat, except for fish fingers and custard.

According to PETA:

"“Eating dead animals simply doesn’t fit with the Doctor’s moral compass since, as Christopher Eccleston so aptly said, the show has ‘the central message of love for life in all its forms’,” read the open letter."

I don’t want to make fun of, or disavow anyone of their food preferences. If you are a vegan, I support you. In the hate that has come from the Doctor Who fandom lately, the last thing I want to do is add more to it.

However, I’m just blatantly confused. Why is it a big deal what the Doctor eats? He does show love to all life forms, and as far as we know, and since it’s been proven, he is a vegetarian! Why do we have to push more “agendas” against the Doctor?

Please, Chibnall, don’t listen.

Chibnall, you already have an alien who’s a vegetarian. And, as I’ve read recently by many fans, we’re on a teetering edge with many fans. Many believe that there is an agenda being pushed already by having a female doctor, and many have threatened, if not actively, bowed out of the show.

Also, I feel like it’s important to acknowledge to PETA, to the fans, and to Chibnall, it’s a television show. No harm ever comes to animals during filming. In fact, the Doctor officially went vegetarian in his sixth version.

I’m…aghast. I’m never against anyone who wants to eat healthier, or people who want to help people. But…we’re talking about an alien who can change his face to cheat death. It’s not real.

I…really don’t have anything else to say besides that. At some point, as important as it is to fans, it’s not real.

I think at this point all we can do is laugh at the absurdity.
