Doctor Who Rumor: Was That River’s Diary?
We all know that the next episode, Extermis, written by Steven Moffat himself, is set to be a big one. We already know that this is the episode where we see who’s in the vault.
And so far, we were about 99% percent sure it was going to be Missy. And I agree with the fact that Missy is the one in the vault on the piano. But give me a minute to talk about all these gosh darn River nods!
River Song – The Doctor’s Wife

I’ve speculated about River Song throughout the series so far, especially when the Who world went crazy with speculation about Two Doctors visiting the Frost Fairs during Thin Ice. And we know there have been more than a few reminders of the Doctor’s wife in the past episodes. The picture on his desk, the mention more than a couple mentions during Thin Ice — and always, in the back of my head, I thought it was possible that they meant something.
Many people have told me to stop my imagination, and that we had our last River episode and goodbye. That’s it, we’re done with River.
And I thought of real life consequences. Alex Kingston lives in Los Angeles. Could she make a trans-Atlantic flight with no one realizing or batting an eye? The interesting thing about British actors, is yes, she probably could have.
But…the Extremis Preview!
But I still shoved my feelings down until I saw the preview for Extremis last night. And even though it took me multiple hours to get my feelings about Oxygen down on paper, this question about the preview is very simple and easy to write.
Why did we just see River’s diary?

I’m NOT saying that River is in the vault. That would make no sense at all. If there’s one thing that we know, it’s that in any timeline, they would never be scared of her.
In Silence of The Library, River leaves her diary in the library. Is it possible that the Doctor is going to use River’s help via the book, just to see what times they’d had through her eyes after the Singing Towers? I doubt we’re going to see her again, as much as I wish we would, especially with her surprising chemistry with Capaldi — but even so, there’s got to be a big reason we’re seeing the diary in the next episode.
Although, didn’t the Doctor have one of his own diaries? Either way, something about River is coming back next episode.
