Billie Piper Does Not Want to Be The Next Doctor

Finally, someone has stepped forward to say they are not interested in the role of the 13th Doctor…and it’s former companion Billie Piper.

It feels like the last day and a half since Peter Capaldi announced his retirement has been nothing but actor after actor jumping up and down and yelling “pick me! pick me!” in hopes of becoming his replacement. But thankfully there’s one actor out there who has no interest in the role: Billie Piper, who played his companion for the first two seasons of the rebooted show and then continued to make guest appearances all the way through the 50th anniversary special.

According to the News and Star, Piper, who was being interviewed for another project when the news broke was put on the spot by the Press Association on if she might be interested in the role. Considering that the Doctor’s last companion, Clara, left the show by taking off in a TARDIS of her own, complete with a companion at the helm, perhaps the idea of the Doctor morphing into a face he’d seen before was not so far fetched?

Piper was adamant that, having seen what the actor who plays the Doctor goes through up close, she wouldn’t want it.

"“I wouldn’t like that responsibility, it’s just too enormous, it’s so much work.”"

But she did then advocate the call for a actress to take over the role, instead of a man.

"“They have been talking about that since I started, maybe it’s one of those things they like to talk about that never comes to fruition, annoyingly. I think that would be a welcome turn, they have had a few different age groups and I think that would be the wise way to go. Whether they do actually go that way … Although I quite like the traditional format but I don’t know how they would move forward with something fresh. I think it would be a wise opportunity.”"
