Billie Piper returns to her award winning role in the popular stage play, Yerma, and it’s now you can screen the performance live into cinemas.

If you’re wondering what our favorite companion is up to these days, you don’t have to look farther than the Young Vic Theater. Billie Piper is heading back to the stage to reprise her role in Federico García Lorca’s award-winning play Yerma. The critically acclaimed play will return to the stage in July, and will stream live into cinema houses in August.

The play is about a young woman driven to commit a terrible crime because of her obsession with mothering a child. “Yerma” is a Spanish word for barren. In the play Piper’s character, and her family, suffer disastrous consequences as a result of her infertility.

Piper’s powerful performance has gained a lot of attention and praise. In the original 2016 run, Piper even won an Evening Standard Award for Best Actress. As a result, the play will move into it’s second run in July. Tickets are available February 1st on the Young Vic website.

While audiences have turned out to see the play at the Young Vic Theatre, it’s an intimate and eclectic space. Couple this with it’s short five week run, and that makes it more difficult to get into see it.   Demand is exceeding space, so creator Simon Young got innovative in trying to reach audiences.

The solution is a live broadcast, streamed directly into select theaters all around England. It’s an exciting way for fans to experience the play even when tickets for the live performance have been so notoriously hard to get into.
