Here is the first footage for Series Ten of Doctor Who. Thank you, BBC!

The long, tortuous wait for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio,’ is finally just about over. Today is Christmas Day and, thus, the special will air this evening at 5:45 on BBC One and 9/8 central on BBC America.

But this is not the only present to be received by Whovians on this fine day. The BBC has also bestowed upon us the first trailer for Series Ten, which will begin airing in April of 2017. It features Peter Capaldi in his third season as the Twelfth Doctor, as well as Pearl Mackie in her first season as the Doctor’s newest companion, Bill Potts.

Check out the super exciting video below:

Bill is shown to be expressively awed by the amazing things that the Doctor introduces to her. Just as promised, she is quite inquisitive about what she experiences. Comically, she thinks that the TARDIS control room is “like a kitchen.” Also as promised is Nardole, who sports a pair of dad glasses from the 1980s.

More from Winter is Coming

From the trailer, we learn some important new information about the upcoming series. To start with, Bill is a counter server in what appears to be a dining hall at a school. This is most likely St Luke’s University in Bristol, as was established in production photos from over the summer. At the university, the Doctor is “a professor, or a lecturer,” as described by Bill, the first being a nice nod to the fact that his former companion, Ace, calls him “Professor.” Bill, however, calls him “Doctor What.”

Showrunner Steven Moffat stated back in August that he was not sure whether or not he was going to include in Series Ten Bill’s debut scene from this past April. A bit of it does appear in the trailer, so it seems that it will be incorporated into an episode.
