Doctor Who’s David Tennant to Voice Scrooge McDuck on the DuckTales Reboot

If you were a child in the late 1980s, you may have fond memories of the cartoon DuckTales. It’s coming back, and this time, there will be a Doctor Who connection.
DuckTales was one of the more entertaining cartoons to come out of the late 1980s. The show ran on the Disney Channel from 1987 to 1990. Following the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his great-nephews — Huey, Dewey, and Louie — the episodes either centered on a search for treasure, or villains attempting to steal Scrooge’s fortune (or his lucky dime). It may have been a simple formula, but it worked well.
And now, the show is back. While the resurrection of the program was announced in 2015, we still did not know major details, like who would be on the cast, or when, exactly, it would air. Well, our wait is over, as the cast of the new DuckTales has been announced. This time, it has a distinct Doctor Who connection.
David Tennant, arguably the most beloved of the newer Doctors, will take on the role of Scrooge McDuck. While Scrooge does not have the same speech issues as his nephew Donald, it will still be interesting to hear Tennant use his Scottish accent in the role.

Tennant has a lengthy list of previous cartoon voice acting on his resume. Other than playing the Doctor in various animated Doctor Who adventures (and the Caretaker in one), he has voiced such characters as Spitelout in How to Train Your Dragon, Huyang on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Fugitoid on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Dread the Evil Genie on Jake and the Never Land Pirates. He even did a cameo as the Tenth Doctor on Family Guy. As an animated adventure show, DuckTales, in particular, dovetails well with Doctor Who. Or is it ducktails?
There are even some parallels in the two characters. Both race around on their quests, travelling to far off and wondrous places. Both have their arch nemeses, even if they have different motivations. And, given the money that Scrooge McDuck has, and his penchant for collecting strange and wondrous items, who is to say that his money bin isn’t a TARDIS? It does seem bigger on the inside, after all.
As for the actor, himself, he was a crucial part of the Doctor Who revival, and will now be one for the DuckTales reboot.
