Doctor Who: Mark Gatiss Raves About 2016 Christmas Special

Steven Moffat has written some brilliant episodes of Doctor Who. If Mark Gatiss is to be believed, the showrunner may have outdone himself with this year’s Christmas special.
Over the course of the revival of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat has written some truly amazing episodes. Episodes such as ‘The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances,’ ‘Blink,’ and ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’ became instant classics. These tales helped cement Moffat’s place in Doctor Who even before he became a showrunner.
Now, it seems as though that stellar writing may be making another appearance. According to Mark Gatiss, the Christmas special may be Moffat’s greatest work yet, as he claimed it drove him to tears while reading it. It remains to be seen if these were tears of joy, sorrow, or both.

If this is, indeed, one of Moffat’s best works, then the year long wait to see the Doctor may be worth it. That would also be the case if the Christmas special is a sign of what is to come, and Series Ten proves to be an epic work of art. The Christmas special, if Gatiss is correct, could set the bar high for the rest of the season.
It would also make sense for Moffat to put together some of his best work for Series Ten. As he is departing the show, this could be a last hurrah of sorts, giving the fans everything he has to leave behind a positive legacy. A Christmas special that proves to be amongst the best episodes ever penned would certainly help that cause.
