A new logo has been released on Twitter for the upcoming Doctor Who spin-off Class… and it looks somewhat familiar.

The logo’s lettering vertically fades from the top down from white to grey and is starkly set against a black background. The text reads, “BBC Class From The Universe of Doctor Who,” with a bright light shining through the center of the “A” in “Class.”
My first thought was that it was appropriately reminiscent of the Aliens logo, which has a similar light shining through the “I.”Aliens logo (credit: 20th Century Fox)
Interestingly, in my search for that image, I found an Aliens poster with the text of, “There Are Some Places In The Universe You Don’t Go Alone. Aliens This Time It’s War.” Coincidence, or inspiration? Either way, it is pretty cool.Aliens: This Time It’s War (credit: 20th Century Fox)

My second thought was that the warnings of impending fear, tragedy, and war are particularly appropriate in our current political climate. This makes sense considering that Doctor Who and its various spin-offs have a history of making a good effort in staying relevant to current real world events.
And speaking of tragedy, Christopher Eccleston recently called the circumstances surround his leaving Doctor Who “tragic.” That is almost certainly a coincidence, but still…
