Doctor Who: New Info on Bill and Production

Steven Moffat has recently revealed some interesting new information on Bill, as well as the shooting and structure of Series Ten of Doctor Who.
When the Doctor’s newest companion, Bill, was introduced last month, viewers took note of her totally awesome outfit featuring a Prince t-shirt. Many fans wondered if this was an indication that she is from the 1980s. But it turns out, according to showrunner Steven Moffat, that Bill is from our time. Her clothes are merely inspired by the earlier time period, as is the case with a good amount of fashion these days. Moffat says that the actor playing Bill, Pearl Mackie, even picked out the items to complete the look herself.
While not appearing in the Christmas special, Bill will be in the first episode (as well as the rest) of Series Ten. Moffat says that “how we first encounter” both her and the Doctor will be “very unusual for us.” Moffat reiterated that Bill will display “irreverence and cheek,” and ask “the questions that nobody has asked for 53 years,” ones that “you’re not supposed to ask on Doctor Who.” He gave the following examples of the sorts of questions that we can expect:
"“How different is it having two hearts? Is one a back-up? Do you have very, very high blood pressure?”"
The companion for the Christmas special still remains a mystery. We are hoping that it’s Jack, but are not holding our collective breath.

Moffat has also revealed some details about Series Ten’s shooting schedule, as well as the structure of the episodes. Filming will begin in July and the episodes will be mostly single stories. The reason for this is because the Doctor having a new companion will make things “simpler.” This is opposed to Series Nine’s mostly two-parters, which were needed to accommodate the complications created by Clara and the Doctor’s lengthy relationship.
For his last year before stepping down as showrunner, Moffat has just begun work on the first episode of the season, and is planning to write an additional three — probably the ones which will close out the season. From past experience, he anticipates that he will have to contribute more to the writing than just his scripts. He also noted that he has seen some “very strong scripts in from other writers.”
