Doctor Who: Rakhee Thakrar Sort of Addresses Companion Rumors

One of the hot rumors surrounding Doctor Who involves Rakhee Thakrar possibly being cast as the next companion. She sort of addressed those rumors the other day.
The next companion on Doctor Who is expected to be much different than what the Doctor has had recently. Based on the reports and rumors, this next companion will be someone unfamiliar and unimpressed with who the Doctor is, someone perhaps closer to Donna Noble in personality and attitude. Yet, while we may know about the next companion’s inner traits, we still don’t know who will be taking on the role.
Perhaps the hottest rumors about who the next companion will be surround EastEnders star Rakhee Thakrar. However, when asked the other day about those rumors and whether or not she would be joining Doctor Who, Thakrar cryptically said that she is “open to see what comes.”

This is truly a stellar job of not really answering the question. While it is easy to just dismiss her reply as nothing more than an ambiguous way of leaving her options open, there could well be more to her statement than just… not making a statement. Perhaps she is just under orders to not say anything one way or another until the BBC is ready to make an announcement.
Casting Thakrar would certainly be a step in the right direction in regards to Peter Capaldi’s call for more diversity on the show. Of Indian descent, she would at least provide a different look for the companion, while still fitting that stereotype of the young, attractive British lass, the sort with whom the Doctor prefers to travel.

If we are expecting to find out from Thakrar if she will be joining the cast of Doctor Who, however, we will need to wait a bit longer. Her evasive answer would seemingly give us little to go on, but one has to wonder if her non-answer provided more information than it would seem.
