Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi’s Drawings Plus Classic Novel Artwork

Doctor Who has inspired a lot of art over the years. Both official and fan art for the franchise has been making the news lately.
Peter Capaldi is a man of many talents. Best known as an actor, he is also a musician, and a visual artist. When it comes to his art, he particularly loves creating his own Doctor Who fan art. We reported back in February about how he sent a fantastic drawing as fan mail to Doctor Who comic artist Rachael Stott. He also loves to do sketches for kids who are in the hospital.
He recently did an episode of Youtube’s Doctor Who: The Fan Show in which he does sketches on camera of the classic Doctors whom he grew up watching: William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, and Tom Baker. While he draws, Capaldi includes commentary about the history of the show.
Capaldi’s is not the only Doctor Who art in the news as of late. For those fans who enjoy the pulp art covers of the Doctor Who novels, The Cartoon Museum in Holborn, London will be hosting a an exhibition titled Doctor Who: The Target Books Artwork. It will feature over thirty pieces and take place from April 28th to May 15th of 2016. In the past, the museum hosted an exhibition titled Doctor Who In Comics: 1964-2011.

The artwork of both the novels and the comic books is particularly popular amongst Whovians. Not only is it so very well done, but it is representative of the publications that help to get us through the long stretches of time while waiting for new television episodes. This was especially important during the show’s hiatus between the classic years and the revival. Doctor Who: The Target Books Artwork is being presented in recognition of the re-release of some of the classic novels in April of this year.
