Doctor Who: Tim Roth Interested in Being the Next Doctor

At some point, Peter Capaldi is going to depart from Doctor Who. When he does, count Tim Roth among those interested in becoming the Thirteenth Doctor.

We all know that Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who eventually. While his time on the show has had its ups and downs, Capaldi has been a breath of fresh air on the program, giving the Doctor an element that had been sorely lacking in the previous incarnations. His more cynical and sarcastic Twelfth Doctor has given the show an edge that it needed.

Just as Capaldi had some large shoes to fill in following Matt Smith and David Tennant in the role, whoever follows him as the Doctor will likewise have quite the large shadow across his incarnation. In fact, given the history and gravitas of the character, it would not be surprising if there were those who would shy away from such a historical figure.

However, count Tim Roth as one of those who would be more than willing to step aboard the TARDIS when Capaldi’s time on the show is over. In response to a question during a Reddit AMA session, the actor who may be best known for his role as Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs stated that he would be “all for it.”

More from Doctor Who

Even though this sort of response could be taken as Roth just telling a fan what they want to hear, Doctor Who does not tend to elicit that sort of reaction. Actors either have an interest in taking on the role of the iconic Doctor, or they are clear in their preference not to. After all, it does take a special actor to be able to carry the history of the Doctor, while providing a new take on the character.

It would also be a bit peculiar for Roth to join Doctor Who. Fresh off his role in another Quentin Tarantino film, The Hateful Eight, it would seem strange for Roth to take on a television role, especially one as time consuming as it is to be the Doctor. However, Roth has already made a few television appearances before, and being the Doctor is not just another role in a regular program.

At some point, we will need to find a new Doctor to come on board the TARDIS. Why not look at Tim Roth as the Thirteenth Doctor, and bring him along in a future season of Doctor Who?
