Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular Shows in New York Cancelled
By Barry Rice
Remember back in April when we shared the exciting news that the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular was coming to New York for one day only? Well, nevermind.
According to Doctor Who News, ticket holders receiving the following email this week:
"Vision Nine regrets to announce that the two Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular shows scheduled for October 7 at Barclays Center have been cancelled."
"All Ticketmaster online and phone orders will automatically be refunded. Remaining refunds will be available at point of purchase."
"We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to see you at a future event at Barclays Center."
The Symphonic Spectacular has been a tremendous success in the UK for the past several years, including the 2015 tour with host Peter Davison. Australia and New Zealand had their own successful tour earlier this year, as well.

Featuring composer Murray Gold’s iconic Doctor Who music played by a live orchestra, the Symphonic Spectacular also features scenes from the series projected onto a giant movie screen and a variety of monsters and aliens from Doctor Who‘s recent history.
The New York shows were highly anticipated, as they represented the first time the show would take place in the US. Two shows were scheduled for October 7 at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and the timing seemed nearly perfect as many fans from around the country would be in town that week for New York Comic Con, which begins the following day. Missy actress Michelle Gomez was slated to host.

No reason was given for the cancellation, but it’s hard not to imagine that low ticket sales might have been the culprit. Yes, the timing seems ideal, but with ticket prices starting at $50 and fans already strapped for cash after purchasing Comic Con tickets, it’s easy to see how that may have been asking too much.
Maybe some day we’ll get another shot at an American Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, but for now we’ll have to settle for hearing about it from our British and Aussie friends.
