Doctor Who Series 9: Finale Details Leaked Online?

facebooktwitterreddit

Information about Doctor Who‘s upcoming Series 9 has been amazingly light; after last year’s massive leak, including full episodes and scripts for the first five episodes, the BBC has done a great of keeping details under tight lock and key this year.

More from Doctor Who

What little we do know has come mainly from short official announcements with casting, writers, and directors for each episode, as well as the two trailers released so far and a few scant set photos.

Speaking of set photos, that’s also the subject of this new information. First reported by Kasterborous, this weekend a user posted several photos and nuggets of information to notorious website 4chan, purportedly leaked from the episode 12 set. According to Kasterborous, the user was rumored to be a work experience student (who is likely to find himself in a lot of hot water today).

Unfortunately, the photos have since been removed and the user’s thread has been deleted. The information posted is still available, though. Be warned, there are massive possible SPOILERS ahead!

Final SPOILER WARNING! Do not read on if you want to stay spoiler-free!

From Kasterborous:

"“In Episode 12, we are rumoured to see the Doctor and Clara under Gallifrey, which appears to be a catacombic location, that includes some haunting tombs. The tombs are allegedly guarded by ghosts known as the Sliders, which are revealed to be those of old Time Lord, including past Doctors (hence the Tennant and McGann rumours).”"

Now, I can tell you I managed to track down a copy of one of the photos on another site before it too was deleted. The image did indeed show what looked like Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman standing in front of a massive stone tomb, with cameras and lighting equipment all around.

As for the information itself: well, it’s interesting, if not a bit bizarre. The ghosts of past Time Lord lives are guarding tombs under Gallifrey? So we must assume the Doctor finds Gallifrey in the first place, but what’s he doing in the tombs? And this does seem to contradict the “degeneration” rumor going around earlier that attempted to explain the David Tennant/Paul McGann cameos (if they’re even true).

The mystery informant had one more morsel of information, albeit not actually about the finale this time. No, he or she went on to reveal the heavily-guarded identity of Maisie Williams‘ character from episodes 5 & 6, ‘The Girl Who Died’/’The Woman Who Lived.’ Again, fair warning: ahead there be SPOILERS.

Final SPOILER WARNING! Again, do not read on if you want to stay spoiler-free!

Once more, from Kasterborous:

"“Maisie Williams is to play a character called Ashildr, which in Old Norse means ‘battle god’.”"

Granted, that doesn’t actually tell us much at all, but it’s more than we did know. A quick Google search confirms that “Ashildr” or “Ashild” is a female name meaning “battle god,” so at least that much checks out. This still doesn’t tell us who or what she actually is, or how she travels from an ancient Viking village to 18th century France.

At any rate, this is all very far from confirmed information, so take it with a massive grain of salt for now.
