Doctor Who’s Tom Baker Voicing New Star Wars Character
By Barry Rice
Is the Fourth Doctor about to trade his trademark scarf for a Jedi robe? Maybe so, as a new report has Tom Baker announcing that he will soon be joining the ever-expanding Star Wars universe.

Baker was a guest at the Day of the Doctors convention in Slough last weekend, and let the Star Wars news slip as he signed autographs. According to Sci-fi and Fantasy Network, Baker told the crowd:
"“I’m going to be in this new Star Wars thing, you know? I’m going down to recording [sic] some voices for this new character they’ve created for me, very soon.”"
There are several Star Wars projects in various stages of production right now, so with a comment that vague, Baker could be showing up in nearly any of them. It seems unlikely that he would be in J.J. Abram’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, as that film opens in December and would in all likelihood have all possible voice roles recorded by now.
The first spin-off film, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, is currently filming (with former Doctor Who guest star Felicity Jones in the lead role), but again, I somehow doubt that’s what Baker is involved with. The live action Star Wars films tend to have their voice actors on set, usually for motion capture purposes. Baker only mentioned “recording” lines, so that seems doubtful, as well.

Baker could be appearing in an upcoming Star Wars video game or other unannounced project, but the most likely suspect is a guest-starring role in the animated Disney XD series, Star Wars: Rebels. He wouldn’t be the first Doctor Who actor to voice a Star Wars character, as Tenth Doctor David Tennant previously played a droid named Huyang in an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies was even invited to write an episode of Clone Wars by George Lucas himself, but declined the offer.
Coincidentally, Disney’s D23 convention takes place this weekend in Anaheim, California, where new information about The Force Awakens and Rogue One are expected, as well as announcements regarding new Star Wars attractions at various Disney theme parks.
