New trailer breakdown & things we learned, best Doctor Who rumors that weren’t true, fan stereotypes, Tulsa library event, Series 9 monsters, and more!

TGIF Doctor Who Watchers!

The new Series 9 trailer is still the dominant story in the world of Doctor Who news, with fans dissecting every second for new clues about what we’re going to see this year.

More from Doctor Who

We’ve got several new stories regarding the trailer today, including our very own trailer breakdown, dissecting the one-minute long footage scene-by-scene. In addition, we’ve got a piece from WhatCulture revealing 12 things we learned from the trailer, and Radio Times gives a mostly tongue-in-cheek look at where we’ve seen the Series 9 monsters before.

Also from here at Doctor Who Watch, co-editor David Hill presents a case for adding a second companion to the TARDIS, and writer J.R. Frontera asks if we really need an explanation for why the Twelfth Doctor wears a familiar face.

From elsewhere around the internet, we’ve got a fantastic look at 15 Doctor Who rumors that all turned out to be false. It’s a great list and, in my opinion, I’d love to see them all come true in one epic alt-history Doctor Who episode: cast Jason Statham as the Doctor, bring in Woody Allen as Albert Einstein to assist, and have them face off against Ben Kingsley’s Davros and Patrick Stewart’s Meddling Monk. Solid gold!

We’ve also got a list of Doctor Who fan stereotypes that Radio Times says are totally wrong (although I know plenty of Whovians and can tell you first hand that at least half of those stereotypes are totally right), the best Peter Capaldi episode, and an awesome Doctor Who event here in my hometown of Tulsa that I couldn’t resist promoting.

First, here are the top stories from here at Doctor Who Watch:

Doctor Who Should Bring in a Second Companion – David Hill

"With a second companion on board the TARDIS, the Doctor would no longer find himself without direction, lost in the memories of a past that he really cannot return to. While the loss of one of his beloved companions would hurt, the Doctor would have solace in the knowledge that he was not alone with his thoughts, that someone else was there to look after and to guide across the vast reaches of time and space."

Doctor Who: Do We Really Need an Explanation for the Twelfth Doctor’s Face? – J.R. Frontera

"For me personally, I have no burning need to know why the Doctor looks like Caecilius and Frobisher, I already know. Because they are both played by the same actor. It’s not like this is the first time this has happened on Doctor Who or Torchwood. Seems like it’s almost the norm, at this point. Seems like we should be good and used to it by now, right?"

And here are the top Doctor Who stories from around the internet:

15 of the most ridiculous Doctor Who rumors (that never came true) – Digital Spy

"David Beckham, Brad Pitt and Madonna (or at least lookalikes) were set to plague the capital. “[The aliens] plan to replace leaders like Tony Blair and George Bush with lookalikes from Tussauds but it fails so they bring a host of celebrities alive to attack Parliament.”"

Doctor Who Series 9 New Trailer: 12 Things We Learned – WhatCulture

"As had already been confirmed, and in what should be no surprise to anyone, the Daleks are coming back. The oversized pepper shakers will once again be attempting to cause all sorts of mayhem and destruction, presumably before being stopped by their number one enemy, the Doctor. What is great to see here, though, is the mix of Daleks on display. There are the new series ones we’re accustomed to, but also a few that are a very clear throwback to the 60s and 70s eras of the show, and the special weapons Dalek, which is a nice nod to the past and should appease all those fans upset when they started making them all sorts of colours."

TVtype: Celebrate ‘Doctor Who’ at Tulsa City-County Library on Saturday – Tulsa World

"The event will include family games, a chance to test your Whovian knowledge, photo-ops with reenactors from the group “Tulsa Star Force,” a life-size Tardis and cardboard standups of the latest Doctor Who and current villains, according to a news release."
