Everything Ends: My Last Article for Doctor Who Watch

Doctor Who Watch launched on September 28th, 2014. My fiancé, Dave Hill, had been (and still is) writing about baseball in the sports division of FanSided, and convinced the company that they should have a Doctor Who site in the entertainment division. I was not technically part of the staff from the very beginning, but he was, having written the site’s first article. The only other person working here at that time was his co-editor, Joe Vitulli. On October 10th of that year, my first article was posted. Being a slideshow, it was a massive endeavor for someone who had never written an article in their life… not sure why I chose to do that. Anyway, I began as a staff writer, but was soon made an assistant editor. For roughly the past year, I have been an editor.

It has been an interesting and educational experience, one that feels much longer than it has actually been. At the beginning of this year, I wrote an article discussing a bit of what it is like to write for the site. It can certainly be stressful, often feeling as though the whole operation is being held together with bits of virtual string. It has also, however, largely been a positive experience for me. With very few restrictions, I have gotten to express my views regarding something that I love, hone my skills as a writer, and work with some fantastic people. Staff members have come and gone over this time. We have always been something of a ragtag bunch, but we built this site from the ground up into something pretty great — at least in my humble opinion.
While I find myself at a point in my life where moving on appears to be the best decision, it is a bittersweet one. I would like to thank the readers, FanSided, and everyone who has worked at Doctor Who Watch with me. This is Dave’s last day on the site, as well. I do not know what will happen to it after we leave, but, going forward, I hope that it regenerates, lives long, and prospers.
