Doctor Who: It is Unclear Whether or Not a ‘Sleep No More’ Sequel Will Be Made

After the Doctor Who Series Nine episode ‘Sleep No More’ aired, it was thought that a sequel would likely happen in Series Ten. But, according to Mark Gatiss, that now seems to not be happening.

The seemingly least popular Doctor Who episode of Series Nine is ‘Sleep No More.’ It received mixed reviews from our staff right after it aired. Other than the absurd concept for the monsters, however, it is generally agreed that it is not a particularly bad episode. (We have an article discussing that, as well.) Because of this, many fans have been looking forward to a sequel that was rumored to be in the works. There is certainly more to tell of the tale considering that it was left on a cliffhanger.
The episode’s writer himself, Mark Gatiss, stated that he had something in mind, though he did not say when, or even if it would be seen. The common belief was that it would be during Series Ten, since he is currently on the writing staff. But in a recent exchange on Twitter, he implied that this is not to be, and that a supposed episode listing for the upcoming series is not legit. As he points out, it even incorrectly lists his name as “Mark Gattis.”

Below is the screen capture to which he was responding. It looks to be from a wiki page of some sort. Through some sleuthing, Twitter user George Baker traced it back to the Pearl Mackie fan page on Facebook, though they have since taken down the post.

The following is a screen capture of what Wikipedia currently lists as the episodes for Series Ten. Much of the information is still to be announced, namely Episode Eight, which the first list claims to be the sequel. Of course, no matter what Wikipedia says, we can never know anything for sure until we hear it directly from the BBC.

It is important to note that the above Twitter exchange leaves open the possibility that the Sandmen could return in Series Eleven or beyond.
