John Barrowman: a Reunion and an Award, Autumn 2016
By Leah Tedesco
Autumn 2016 has been a notable season for John Barrowman, the beloved Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and Torchwood.
The end of October, there was a glorious reunion — one that was a long time coming — in the world of Doctor Who. At this year’s Alamo City Comic Con, John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler), and David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor) were brought together for their enjoyment, as well as that of the fans. Naturally, the trio snapped a selfie and shared it to the Twitterverse.
The last time that we saw them all together was nearly seven years ago in the two-part special ‘The End of Time,’ which was the end of the Tenth Doctor’s run. Both Tennant and Piper would not be seen on the program again until the November 2013 special ‘The Day of the Doctor.’ She technically, however, did not play Rose, but the Moment. ‘The End of Time’ was Barrowman’s last appearance on the show.
This past Saturday, Barrowman was presented with a Visibility Award by the Human Rights Campaign during the 17th Annual Human Rights Campaign Garden Party. The event, which hosted roughly seven hundred and fifty people, was held at the estate of Barry Manilow and his husband Garry Kief in Palm Springs, California.
