Doctor Who: The American Adventures, A New Book

The Doctor is known for zipping off to some far away place in the galaxy, travelling through time and space to adventure anywhere he desires. A new Doctor Who book of adventures, however, bring him to the exotic locale of… the United States.

In regards to a location for Doctor Who, the United States is still relatively unexplored. It makes sense; after all, the Doctor can go anywhere he would want throughout time and space. Why would he want to go to the U.S., when he could just head to the most interesting, and important, points in the history of the Universe?
However, there is a great deal of untapped history in this young country. At some point, a few of these events will come across the Doctor’s radar. And now, at least in six new stories, they have. In Doctor Who: The American Adventures by Justin Richards, we get to see the Twelfth Doctor across U.S. history.
In this new book published by Puffin, he goes from coast to coast — from the newly dug subway tunnels of New York, all the way to the Oregon Trail. He even finds himself investigating an alien presence at Normandy during D-Day. At least he’s not in the cornfields of Iowa hunting some creepy children, or facing the Statue of Liberty turned Weeping Angel.
As Richards told Ryan Britt of Inverse,
"“I think the stories take place while Clara is still around,” he said. “But the Doctor is off on his own, leaving her to get on with some teaching.”"

It will certainly be interesting to see how these tales unfold. The Doctor will spend a lot of time in areas other than the south western part of the country, a general region which seems to repeatedly draw him in. In having different settings, he can get to explore far more of the United State’s vibrant history.
Perhaps this will serve as a stepping stone for the Doctor to adventure more outside of England. He had become a bit of a homebody in his adopted land. In getting him to other locations, even if it involves a former British colony, we can get to see the Doctor in different scenarios that he may not have been involved with otherwise.
