Doctor Who: Guest Star Fever
By Leah Tedesco
The mania surrounding guest stars on Doctor Who seems to be greater than ever these days. Who will be next?
While they have been appearing since the beginning, guest stars have more than ever been all the rage lately on Doctor Who. Maisie Williams, Joivan Wade, Bethany Black, and Reece Shearsmith being a few of the most recent. As we reported a few days ago, both Matt Lucas and Greg Davies will be guest stars in the upcoming Series Nine Christmas special. And, of course, will will also see the return of River Song in the same episode.
Apart from actors with actual confirmed roles, fans of Doctor Who have been throwing around their own personal choices for guest stars quite a bit these days. Even superfan Peter Capaldi himself has made the excellent suggestions of David Bowie, Keith Richards, and Tom Hanks. We at Doctor Who Watch have a whole series of articles discussing some staff picks for possible guest stars. To date, these include: Alan Cumming, Tim Curry, William Shatner, David Bowie (well before Capaldi made his statement to the press, mind you), and Lucy Lawless. It is likely that there will be more of these articles to come.

Like most Doctor Who fans, we have also mused about the hypothetical return of some characters. Just last week, we were discussing the possibility of the Doctor’s daughter, Jenny, returning to the show. We have also wondered about Ian Chesterton and the Doctor’s granddaughter, Susan (Capaldi is quite keen on her appearing). And the Holy Grail, so to speak, of these characters is the hugely compelling Captain Jack Harkness.
